Sebastián García on Aconcagua Radio: "Early warnings are meant to inform, not alarm."

This was stated by the director of the Argentine Volcano Surveillance Observatory (OAVV) on Aconcagua Radio, following the yellow alert for the Planchón-Peteroa volcanic complex.
The Planchón-Peteroa volcanic complex, located on the border between Argentina and Chile, has entered a yellow alert status after detecting an increase in seismic activity and gas emissions. The Argentine Volcano Surveillance Observatory (OAVV), under the SEGEMAR (Spanish Ministry of Natural Resources), confirmed that this is a preventive measure that allows for intensified surveillance without generating panic among the population.
"It's a volcano that has had quite a few eruptions in history—in 1991, in 2010—but it's only in recent years that we've had instruments to monitor the volcano's activity minute by minute. This allows us to generate these early warnings, with the aim of informing, not alarming," explained Sebastián García, director of the OAVV, in an interview with " Haciendo Cumbre" on Aconcagua Radio .
The yellow alert level indicates that the volcano is showing signs of instability that could evolve, although without imminent risk to nearby communities.
